The "reincarnation"legend is widely spreadat the junction of three provinces, Lipingof Guizhou, Sanjiang of Guangxi and Tongdao of Hunan. The so-called "regeneration" is human reincarnation. This is a very magical and mysterious problem. As noted above, the question of "Do you believe it?" has become one of the most interesting premises. The well-known reincarnation of Living Buddhas in Tibet is a reincarnation event which has large influence, and the reincarnation of Living Buddhas even has a significant impact on the religion and politics of the local as well as the county. The most well-known is the Golden Vase Lottery by the reincarnated soul boy of Panchen Lama in 1990, its grand occasion has been televised and it was the rare high-profile publicity of an atheistic country. In contrast, the most interesting point of the Dongs' reincarnation is that the heroes of the stories heard or seen by people haven't any political purposes, and they are ordinary peoplewithout any particular social statuses, while their past and present lives are always linked, such as the family ancestors or good friends incarnated into neighbors, or the parents become grandchildren, and even men become women. In Shuangjiang town of Tongjiang county, Hunan, we talked with two girls named Yang Richun and Yang Gailiu, respectively.
Yang Richun, female, born in 1983, she said that she was named Yang Pinchui in last life, and she was a boy then. Died young at 13 years old, he could not be buried into the family graves, and he was so homesick that he came back. Her present parents were his former cousins. When she was only two years old in this life, she can accurately find the home of his past parents, and pulled out old photos and identified himself as well as his classmates of last generation. Later the family fed her a bowl of soupin accordance with the customs of the Dongs, and then she gradually forgot a lot of things. I asked them if they had all drunk such soup, Yao Gailiusaid yes, then I asked about her story.
She said her story was almost the same, they have returned to their own homes. She said that when she was very young, she would sing the Dongs' songs to everyone she met in the village, and the elders would ask who teach her the songs since she's just a small girl. Yao Gailiu would say that she was Shi Peisheng who was the grandpa of Yao Gailiu's mother, and he liked singing the Dongs' songs when he was alive. The family said that what she sang were the favorite songs of her last generation. While Yao Gailiu in this life likes singing, and she can remember the songs after listening twice no matter how complex the songs are.
